When I close my eyes I hear things The sound of a carriage passing As its wheels wobble against The cobblestone paths I fade softly against the murmurs Of the crowds that encompass me Wooden chimes are faintly heard Against a howling wind Unknown to me When I close my eyes I see things I see her smiling back at me Just like I remembered her doing Long ago when things were simpler I see myself in the mirror In my dreams, I know it's me But in the daylight, I can never be sure Brilliant blues and pinks cascade Across a sky that, to be honest I never look up at This is nothing profound When I close my eyes I dream of things That are only familiar To the point Of a feeling That I know it I close my eyes And dream until Every petal Falls off When I close my eyes I try to forget what it's like to keep them open When I close my eyes I try to forget the blame When I close my eyes I try to remember my name
