Molly's Bakery

Molly took over the bakery from her father at a young age. Weakened by his illness, she had to start running the business at the age of 12.
She grew up around ovens and dough trays, so it wasn't too much of a challenge. She works hard and never takes a day off - probably the biggest worry I have. She seems hell-bent on proving she can manage on her own. She always seems to be giving and never taking, probably a holdover from when she was hurt as a child and half the village showered her with love and attention.

She was so young when she lost her arm. It was good it happened when she was still a child though, as any adult would probably find it more difficult to adjust to life with only one arm. But Molly recovered quickly and went straight back to helping her father in the bakery. Though the villagers, whose hearts were in the right place, began to spoil her.
"Let me do that for you" and "Do you need help, dear?" were things she heard every day. Slowly but surely, this has developed into a certain defiance that now forces her to do everything on her own. She's a good girl, really, but I wish she'd just take a break once in a while and enjoy life.

But her big heart is really to be commended: Molly is the most lovable person I've ever known, and I'm not just saying that because she's my granddaughter. She is loyal and full of kindness, despite her young age. The early loss of her father has made her someone who would do anything for her loved ones. I'm lucky to have her looking after me in my old age.

Still, I hope that one day she will run the bakery with less vigour. She is a young girl, not yet 30, and she should be enjoying her life instead of working herself to death. I wish her friends to love her for what she is: a woman with an unyielding will to survive and a heart as big as the forest that surrounds us. By the gods, if I could, I would take all her work off her hands and send her away where she would not be threatened by war. I would sell all my possessions to give her a nice, carefree life - though she would probably refuse.

Giving up the bakery is not something she would choose. Losing the last link to her beloved father is something she won't allow herself to do. Understandable, I think. He raised her so well.

But maybe I can at least persuade her to take a day off now and then and make it a happy day for herself. She truly deserves it.
