The graves in the forest

Through my many excursions into the forest and mountains, I have seen a lot. Among the trees and undergrowth, wild animals have left almost invisible trails; paths connecting generations of deer and wild boars that are barely visible to the naked eye among tall bushes. If you follow these paths, they wind through the forest like veins and connect large clearings, you'll find something odd.

Many of the clearings contain graves.

Some are so overgrown that they can only be recognized by markings made with stones; piles of stones are not of natural origin. They are flat stones that have been neatly stacked and handled with great care, with the largest stones at the bottom and the smallest stones on top like a crown. Someone planted a bunch of flowers around them, mostly forget-me-nots or star moss, which covers the graves like a soft blanket. There are dozens of graves, some of which are so old that they seem almost forgotten and some of which are no more than a few hundred years old. What they all have in common, however, is that a little light filters through the dense canopy of trees in these clearings and touches the ground. Starlight bathes these final resting places in a soft glow - unlike the many dead at the front nowadays.

The graves seem to have been lovingly cared for, bearing witness to great sadness. I don't know who left them here though. No one dares to venture far into the forest because the Black Beast lurks in the shadows. Perhaps, over time, relatives of those buried there have ventured into the forest to bury their loved ones, despite the risk? I can't blame anyone for wanting a beautiful grave for their child. I laid my son to rest at the edge of the forest so he wouldn't be alone until I joined him, so I understand. The forest may be cursed by the Black Beast's presence, but it is still beautiful. A beautiful place for eternal sleep.

I have begun to record the locations of the graves in my notes. I'm struck by the fact that all the graves are near the large Starfall Meadow though. They are close to the heart of the forest, where there is a perfect view of the starry sky. I wonder if this has any significance - and, if so, why is Starfall Meadow so important?
